TCM Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbs for Arthritis & Pain, Rehmannia Six
The TCM formula Rehmannia Six or Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is ideal for dogs with chronic low back pain and hind end weakness. It is ideal for senior dogs who also have kidney disease (CRD), pyelonephritis or incontinence due to increased drinking and urination (PUPD).
Rehmannia Six helps arthritic dogs who also have endocrine disease including Addison’s disease, Cushing’s disease Diabetes insipidus, and Diabetes mellitus. Because Rehmannia Six builds yin or fluids in the body, it helps arthritic dogs that have dry eye or dry stools.
The brain is also nourished by fluid or “yin” and when the brain dries out, pets often become irritable or restless. Rehmannia Six helps calm restless, irritable dogs. The skin is nourished by fluid or “yin” and when the skin dries out, dogs often have powdery dander or thick dander (seborrhea. Rehmannia Six helps nourish the skin and lessens dander.
Is Rehmannia Six ever contraindicated?
Rehmannia Six shouldn’t be used in pets that are chilly. These pets want to sleep under the covers or curled up tightly to hold in body heat. Chilly pets with arthritis would benefit from Rehmannia Eight rather than Rehmannia Six. Rehmannia Eight is warming and invigorates the body while Rehmannia Six treats yin deficiency in the kidney, liver, stomach, etc.
Safe source of Rehmannia Six or Liu Wei Di Huang Wan
Although the ancient Chinese had wisdom to formulate excellent medicines, the modern Chinese do not provide these medicines in a guaranteed safe form. I do not recommend using any TCM formula that has not been through good manufacturing process (GMP) in the US or Canada. Please ask me for herbs that are safe for your pet.
