Caring for Arthritic Dogs, Using Rehmannia Eight or Ba Wei Di Huang Wan for Arthritic Dogs

TCM Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbs for Arthritis & Pain, Rehmannia Eight
Rehmannia Eight, which is also called Ba Wei Di Huang Wan, is an ideal TCM formula for senior dogs with arthritis. Rehmannia eight is ideal for seniors because it helps with pain and with kidney disease and incontinence.

Rehmannia Eight is especially helpful for pain in the low back, originating in the bones or the kidneys. It strengthens weak back legs and warm cold lower legs. It helps dogs with degenerative myelopathy and numbness (neurasthenia), the type of neuromuscular problems that are due to deficiency.

Rehmannia Eight is a basic kidney tonic, but it also helps dogs with endocrine disease, such as hypothyroidism and sugar diabetes (diabetes mellitus). Rehmannia works as a kidney tonic because it strengthens kidney chi and boosts kidney yang. It tonifies the pet and is a great geriatric tonic.

Rehmannia Eight and Cats
About 1/3 of our senior cats develop kidney disease, and many of them also have arthritis or back pain. Rehmannia Eight is ideal for these arthritic cats. It helps cats with chronic renal failure (CRF), azotemia, and high blood pressure (hypertension) due to kidney disease. It also helps cats with asthma, especially when they are weak.

Who shouldn't have Rehmannia Eight?
An arthritic dog or cat that has acute kidney disease should not have Rehmannia Eight because it increases renal blood flow. Nor should a pet that is too “damp” have Rehmannia Eight, because it can cause vomiting in these pets.

Safe source for Rehmannia Eight or Ba Wei Di Huang Wan
Although the ancient Chinese had wisdom to formulate excellent medicines, the modern Chinese do not provide these medicines in a guaranteed safe form. I do not recommend using any TCM formula that has not been through good manufacturing process (GMP) in the US or Canada. Please ask me for herbs that are safe for your pet.
