I've been blessed to have shared my life with several senior pets through the years. My childhood cat Patch was with us for 15 years (today is coincidentally the 22nd anniversary of the day he went to the Rainbow Bridge...my first experience losing a pet), then my family took in a neglected neighborhood cat Sam at around age 11. When I was old enough to adopt a cat on my own, I first chose Sashi who was already 9 when I brought her home, then Tara was 7 or a little older when I adopted her.
Everyone gravitates towards puppies and kittens, but bringing home a senior pet is gratifying in so many ways. Having the opportunity to share a pet's golden years with them is a gift to be cherished.
